This antique longcase clock, often known as a Grandfather clock, carries the name Robt. Palliser on its painted dial. The Palliser family worked in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, from the 1820s, so it likely dates the piece to the early or mid-19th century. The dial uses Roman numerals, with fruit painted in each spandrel and a rural scene in the arch above the face.

The tall, freestanding wooden case blends oak and flame mahogany veneers and cross-banding. The central trunk has a single door that opens to the pendulum and weights. The hood has an arched pediment with an urn finial at the centre. Turned columns frame the dial and give the clock a strong, balanced look. The clock features a traditional weight-driven movement with an escapement mechanism and a bell strike that sounds the hour.
