A beautifully handmade serving or display plate with a wide, shallow form and gently raised sides, sitting on a pronounced footed base. The plate stands on an unglazed circular foot ring, revealing the pale cream coloured clay body beneath.
Finished in a rich jade green glaze, the plate has a natural appearance with subtle variations in colour and texture throughout. Small pinholes, dark speckling and areas of glaze movement form part of the handmade process, while darker brown and iron toned pooling around the rim and foot add to its rustic character.
The surface shows subtle throwing rings from the potter's wheel together with three darker kiln marks near the centre, reflecting the traditional methods used in its production.
Each plate is handmade in the village of Tamegroute on the edge of the Sahara Desert in southern Morocco. Local artisans use clay from the River Draa and traditional techniques passed down through generations. Every piece is glazed by hand, sun dried and fired in one of the village's historic kilns, creating natural variations that make each plate unique.
