Large Victorian Stoneware Pickling Crock with coopered‑style barrel form

This large Victorian stoneware pickling barrel, often referred to as a pickling crock, was made for preserving food. It uses a traditional barrel form with moulded faux coopered bands and side handles. “PICKLING” is stencilled on the front, clearly stating its intended use. A vessel of this size was likely used by a butcher, commonly for pickling ox tongues. The exterior has a warm cane-coloured finish with a white glazed interior and rim. It is in good condition for its age, with knocks and small chips to be expected, all visible in the images.
