This charming Gothic Revival stationary cabinet dates to the late Victorian era and shows strong Scottish Vernacular character. The carved door arch bears the numbers “1895,” which strongly suggests its year of creation and places it firmly at the end of the 19th century. The proportions and carving reflect the period’s taste for structure, detail, and skilled workmanship.

Inside, you find multiple small open compartments arranged in tidy tiers, designed for sorting letters, papers, or small items. The lower section includes a run of small drawers fitted with brass handles, offering practical additional storage. The cabinet was likely once part of a larger bureau or cabinet, yet it works very well as a standalone piece and feels complete in its own right.

The exterior doors are finished with a faux woodgrain scumble, a decorative effect popular at the time and expertly executed. Some carved details were later highlighted with a lighter colour, now flaking in places to reveal the earlier finish beneath.
