This late Victorian pine merchant’s tool chest, or kist, likely dates to around 1900. It has a simple, straight-sided design and is made from stained pine. The surface shows a worn, distressed finish with white paint speckles. Internally it is a single open space, with a metal drop handle on each end for carrying. It can be used as a coffee table, a blanket or storage chest, a side table, or simply as a decorative piece to display books or plants.
