This mahogany torchere stand is a Victorian or Edwardian piece, designed as an elegant pedestal for displaying plants, decorative objects, or small lamps. Its tall, refined form makes it both practical and ornamental, reflecting the period’s taste for statement furniture with classical influences.
The stand is crafted from solid mahogany, showing a rich, deep patina. The circular top is slightly dished, providing a secure surface for a vase, potted plant, or other decorative item. The central column is turned and carved, with reeded and spiral sections and subtle acanthus leaf detailing where it meets the base.
It rests on a stable splayed tripod base with three shaped legs, each terminating in carved ball-and-claw feet. The proportions and carved details draw inspiration from earlier Georgian and Chippendale designs, revived in Victorian and Edwardian interiors.
A versatile and decorative piece, this torchere stand adds height, presence, and period character to any interior.
