The ladder back features decorative quatrefoil cut-outs, a shaped central detail to the top rail and pyramid bosses across the frame. The original metal locking catch and retaining chain remain in place, allowing the chair to convert securely into library steps.

Each of the four chair steps retains its original woven carpet insert with a repeating floral pattern, providing extra grip underfoot. The solid square legs and hinged frame give the chair a stable feel whether used for seating or as folding library steps.
