Vintage Chinese Black Lacquered Rice Barrel

A vintage Chinese black lacquered rice barrel or storage bucket, decorated with hand-painted floral motifs and traditional decorative panels.

The oval-shaped barrel features a removable flat lid and dark metal loop handles to each side. The lid is painted with lotus leaves and water lilies against a muted gold ground, surrounded by a fine decorative border.

The main front panel features a large lobed cartouche depicting pink and white lotus flowers, green lily pads and a butterfly, set against an antiqued gold background. A smaller upper panel features a flowering branch with orange blossoms.

The lacquered finish shows age-related wear, including minor chips, surface distressing and patina around the edges, consistent with its vintage age.
