A wall mounted wooden telephone in the style of an early British GPO model dating from the first half of the 20th century. Built from dark stained timber with brass fittings, it makes an eye catching decorative piece for a home, office or collection.
The main case houses a vintage rotary dial with an original style centre card displaying period emergency instructions and a local exchange number. Above the dial sits a brass transmitter with a black mouthpiece, while the matching brass hand receiver hangs from its original side hook and remains attached by a braided fabric cord.
The upper section retains its twin brass ringer bells and the lower section includes the original angled writing shelf, once used for making notes during calls. These details reflect the practical design of working telephones from the period.
The telephone shows light age related wear across the wood and metalwork with a well developed patina that suits its age. It displays well as a decorative item and captures the character of early British telecommunications.
