A wall mounted wooden telephone in the style of an early British GPO model dating from the first half of the 20th century. Built from warm stained timber with brass fittings, a decorative piece for a home, office or collection.
The telephone features a single black bakelite handset that combines the earpiece and microphone in one unit. It rests on its original metal cradle and connects to the main body with a braided fabric cord. The front of the case is fitted with a chrome rotary dial finished with a black centre cap.
Twin brass ringer bells remain mounted on top of the main case and the lower section includes the original writing shelf, designed for making notes during calls. The simple layout reflects the practical design of working telephones from the period.
The telephone shows light age related wear across the wood and metalwork with a well developed patina that suits its age. It displays well as a decorative item and captures the character of early British telecommunications.
